How a holiday lights tour works
You choose the evening, the pickup address, and the displays. We plan the order with you before the night, so the drive between stops is short and the time at each one is not rushed. On the night, your chauffeur arrives at the agreed time, drives the route, waits while you walk the displays that are best seen on foot, and takes everyone home at the end.
Some displays are best taken slowly from the car; others are ticketed walk-through events where we drop you at the entrance and meet you when you come out. A tour can mix both. It is the same private, door-to-door service as any Avant booking: one group, one vehicle, and one chauffeur for the whole evening.
Where to see Christmas lights in San Diego
A few long-running public displays anchor most tours. Dates, hours, and tickets change every year, so check each organizer’s official page (linked below) before you book. We plan the route around whatever is running on your night.
- Balboa Park: Balboa Park December Nights is the City of San Diego’s holiday festival in the park, and the city’s page has this year’s plans. Crowds are heavy and parking is limited, which is exactly when a drop-off and a scheduled pickup help.
- San Diego Zoo: Jungle Bells lights up the zoo in Balboa Park on holiday evenings. It needs a zoo ticket. We drop you at the entrance and meet you when you leave.
- Rancho Peñasquitos: Christmas Card Lane is a long-running neighborhood tradition, with residents putting large painted holiday cards in their front yards. It is a residential street with no organizer, so we drive it slowly and keep the car quiet for the neighbors.
- Encinitas: Lightscape at San Diego Botanic Garden is a ticketed holiday light trail with timed entry. Pair it with a coastal drive through Del Mar and Solana Beach on the way north or back.

It also takes the hardest part out of the night. December weekends bring heavy traffic around Balboa Park and full lots near the bigger events. With a chauffeur, the drop-off is at the entrance and the car is waiting when you come back out.

Every tour is quoted individually, based on your date, the vehicle, the pickup address, and how long you want the car. The quote is all-inclusive. No surprise fees added later: tolls, parking, and fuel are part of the price you are quoted. Gratuity is at your discretion.

Book early for weekends near Christmas
The weekends closest to Christmas, and the December Nights weekend in Balboa Park, are the busiest nights of the season on the roads and at the displays. If your date is fixed, book as soon as you know it. Weeknights earlier in December are quieter everywhere and are often the easiest evenings to plan.

It depends on the route. A loop through one area fits into a short evening; a route that adds a ticketed walk-through or a stop in North County takes longer. Tell us the displays you want and we will suggest how much time to allow. Van tours book for at least four hours.
